Does anybody use RMRNews on a Netbook through blueyonder (a UK ISP) via ethernet, successfully?

If so, can you describe what settings need to be made.

I have chosen news.blueyonder.co.uk as the news server in RMRNews and I have subscribed to a couple of newsgroups, however when I try to retrieve messages I just get the message "Cannot connect to server".

Help?

David.

I don't use RMRNews, but I know that Blueyonder news requires authentication - does RMRNews support entry of a user and pass for newsgroups?

okay, get hold of FLFinger from www.freepoc.de and do some testing - go online then try pinging the address of newsgroup server. If it pings then u know your machine is finding it.

Is there a long delay before the error message? Is the app timing out trying to connect?

Another angle of attack would be to contact the author and get a list of error conditions for which this message is thrown, then you can investigate each in turn..

IT pings. Error turn-around time is a second or two, tops. Maybe it's something to do with the fact I'm using ethernet rather than dial-up modem on the netbook? Does anybody use rmrnews on a netbook with ethernet?
cheers,

Hmm. Ethernet shouldn't be a problem - 'connections' sit a level above modems and ethernet in the Psion layout.

Worth having a look at this current thread about RMRNews in the Revo forum: http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=911

Is this a recent OS install, or hav you been using this netBook for other sorts of ethernet/mdoem comms before hitting this prob?
