ive recently purchased a second hand 3870, im having trouble charging the ipaq, i put it in the cradle and ive left it there for 2 hours and the battery charge bar has gone up only 4 %, the flashing orange light on the top flashes twice then pauses for 3 - 6 seconds then flashes twice, but when i put it straight in the cradle it flashes constantly then goes back in to flashing and pausing,
ive not linked it to my usb lead ive disconnected all the sync leads and left the charger in,
any help would be grateful, is there a way to turn the ipaq off instead of putting it into standby when u press the power button
thanks

A few things to note here....
Try just plugging the adapter in the iPAQ, maybe you have a faulty cradle.
If you push the power button in quickly, it will shut off. If you hold it for more than a half a second, you are just turning off the backlight. This is a feature with all 2002 devices, so keep that in mind.
I have a new cradle and still have to place my device just right, or it will be on battery power and not AC. You could just use a sync and charge cable, those are pretty good.

i cant plug the charger directly into it, i dont think i have the specail adaptor, if i watch the battery screen, while the light is flashing it says charging, when it stops its says, battery power remaining, then it starts to flash again it says charging,
could this be an actual fault with the ipaq it self??

You don't know for sure unless you had a way to charge it directly, the fault still could be the cradle.
What all came with your 3870?
What are the first 4 numbers/letters of your serial number?

i got everything in the package, like it said on the box apart from the adaptor that goes on to the plug so that u can avoid using the cradle and just power it,
the first four letters of my serial number are 4G1C

i left the ipaq on charge all night for about 10 hours, it managed to charge from 18% to 46%

It only takes about 15 minutes to fully charge the unit, or atleast get it where it say's full charge. Looking at your serial number, I think you have one of the first devices. That means your battery could be bad, but I would see about getting the adapter for the charger. Atleast, try and get a sync and charge cable.
