What to do wtih shareware that can no longer be registered?

Hi all,

It's happened to quite a few people it would seem - they have found an excellent piece of software only to find that it can no longer be registered despite repeated attempts to contact the author. What should we, as responsible Psion owners, do about this?

This situation is governed by legal issues and has been debated to death at various other places (notable the EpocDigest). The only really moral and legal approach would be for someone to write an alternative application when an author leaves the Psion scene but with limited registration opportunities and a shrinking user-base this is looking less feasible than ever before.

In reality, I do see the potential for a site where registration codes can be given out and the registration proceeds kept for the original author (or their estate) for a period of time before being donated to charity.
