I'm rather uninformed about the way HPCs work.
I own a sharp mobilon tripad and have the following problem:

I have noticed that it seems to reset itself after longterm non-use (a few months). All the programs I put in are gone. This has happened three times in the past year and a half. Is this normal? Is there a way to prevent this or must I keep having to reinstall programs everytime I have left it unused for a few months? Actually, this is just a correlation I've noticed. Perhaps the problem is that of random resetting--having nothing to do with how long the thing has been laying around.

I plan on using it much more now, but I am afraid of data loss.

What you describe is "normal" given the factory spec's for the batteries. The batteries aren't designed to hold a full charge for an extended time. Maybe a couple of weeks or so. Once the main battery pack is dead, the backup cell has a life of just a few days. Best solution is to keep your unit where you will remember to put it on the charger overnight, once a week (more often if you use it during the week of course). The charging circuit and program should be able to keep the battery fully-charged without over-charging, assuming your unit is otherwise OK and the battery pack is in good condition.
