A Fatal Alert

"LauncherMain.c, Line: 9128, Could not complete the operation because system is out of dynamic memory."

appears even if I have more than 2MB of free RAM.

What gives?

I've seen the same error message once...I believe I simply deleted LauncherX and re-installed to fix the problem. Could never figure out exactly why it happened...

Hi

Iv'e had similar problems with AcidImage, the TT has 2 MB of memory to work with, and if the thumbnail (*.thm) files are bigger than 2 MB, then there is no memory left to load the images I want to view.

This is a bug in OS5. You get it when you have more than 345 db's in your palm internal memory, and has nothing to do with the memory left in the Palm. It happens with every action in the 'App' menu (Delete, Info etc). Use a Launcher or File Manager to circumvent actions in the App menu.

Hi guys, thanks for the help...

Anyway, here are the results so far...

I've tried reinstalling Launcher X (and deleting it), no dice...

I used to, but don't have Web Pro currently installed...

How could I 'delete' the 345 DB's? When you say circumvent, do you actually mean that I should could no longer use the default INFO, DELETE, BEAM, etc. functions in the native Palm app launcher?

This is such an irritating bug considering I'm not one to use 3rd party app launchers...

It's interesting to discover others have been seeing this problem. I ended up deleting a number pf apps from my Tungsten and transfering others to the card to circumvent this from occurring. I had never heard about the 345 DBs explanation. Does Palm know about this? Anyone developed a fix?

Palm knows about it for sure, but won't admit it openly. I guess they will fix it in version 5.1, and is probably to be expected this month (along with the RealPlayer and sound-fix)

And yes, by circumventing I mean not using the App menu in the standard launcher. Use another launcher untill the bug is fixed.

You could also try to move as much programs to SD/MMC card as possible for the time being.

I'm using another launcher anyway, simply just because it's much better (LauncherX) than the standard one.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I just deleted a couple of DB's, specifically those orphaned DB's with the suffix '_appl_XXX.' OS5 is only able to handle too much of this. Whew! So it's really a bug I guess, particularly with OS5's database handling. I guess this could be avoided by using 3rd party applications that remove the entire file group of an apps So much for the native app launcher's DELETE function.

And, oh yes, I do hope Palm addresses this bug in its OS5.1patch. Along with the downsampling issue and the (free) RealPlayer.

Thanks guys so much.

i just got the same message using the default launcher & tapping on info in the menu.

what are all these a68k files? & why are they left over after an app is deleted?

is it safe to delete these files?

thanks Andy

Yes, they are safe to delete. They are automaticaly created when you run a program that is not written for the new OMAP processor. The program runs in emulation mode and is translated to the new platform. If you delete a program I don't see any harm in deleting the a68 file for that program.

And yes, this is one of the causes that you will get to 345 file limit a bit sooner than you would expect....

that sucks. The tungsten is the first palm I buy and I read about bugs where if you have more than 345db files it crashes......seems a bit lame to me

ztupid, thanks for the reply.

what you said makes sense but all my apps seem to have an a68k file including native palm apps & i noticed appcheck has one too!

just be careful guys when deleting these files as some of them actually crashes the T|T big time (hard reset required) for some reason when deleted... i had to hard reset 2 times when I started deleting these files using Filez 5.1.1

Hope OS 5.1 would take good care of this... ;)

I had the same problem, TT made a soft reset everytime I tried to reach something in the app. menu. The answer fron Palm support was tah TT cant handle more than 344 data bases... But I didnt have that many - so, someopne gave the advice to clear the cache of Web pro... and Voila! that cured the little beloved thing!
Thanks!
