Hello all, I am new to this board. I have an issue I would like to resolve. I have a palm Vx and a desktop PC. This combination has been working fine for years. I have recently purchased a laptop and would like to have the same information that is on my desktop on my laptop. I have tried copying over the "palm" folder from my desktop at C:\Program Files\Palm to my laptop in the exact same directory, but I can never get the palm desktop on my laptop to show my datebook, to do list, or any other feature.

If at all possible, would someone please tell me which files I have to transfer to allow my laptop to have my "to do list," "address book," and all the related files.

I am a stdent trying to keep down costs, so buying a more palm products to allow my laptop to hotsych and stuff are not going to happen, though I would more than love to do it.

My desktop and laptop are both using Windows 2000 pro. Installed on my deaktop and laptop is palm desktop vers 4.1

If there is a way to hotsync my palm via the desktop to my laptop over the internet I am more than willing to do that. These computers are not on a network, but I can connect them using Symantec PC Anywhere

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You can not install Palm Desktop simply by copying folders. You will need to install the Palm Desktop software on the laptop using the original setup program. You could then simply copy your data files over if you want to see your info on both.

Under the palm folder on your computer there is a folder that is called by your user name on the palm. It is truncated but should be obvious. It is called your surname followed by your first name initial. In this folder you will find folders for the main palm conduits. Simply copy these over and the data is copies.

Have you considered doing a hotsync with your laptop and PC? I have done this myself. You sync normally with your PC and then you sync with the laptop but select "Handheld overwrites Desktop" on the laptop. This makes your PC the master and the laptop simply a copy of the PC. If you have Infrared on your laptop it is simple to hotsync by beaming.

Hope this helps.

My palm cannot hotsync with my laptop. My palm cord has a female serial and my laptop has a female serial (but with more pins). I could not find an adapter with male regular/male extra pins.

When I did the folder replacement, it was a replacement of the installed folder on the laptop. I did not just sit a folder there in a created directory. I figured it might work :p silly me

Unfortunately, I do not have infrared capability with my laptop. I'll try the method you just spoke of and I will report my findings immediately. Thanks for the help =)
