Infrared malfunctioning

Have Mako and Psion Travel modem, unable to use modem, or infrared to another Mako (I have 2 Makos). Used to work before. Trying to connect from Email, I get pop-up stating:
Program Socket Server
Reason Code Sock Timer
Reason number 0

When trying from Opera:
Program Opera
Reason code KERN-EXEC
Reason number 3 (and also above Socket Server code)

When I try to send file from 1 device to the other, sending machine emits 3 quick beeps, declining pitch, and soft re-sets itself. Tried both ways from both devices, 3 beeps, and soft re-set.

Since devices unable to sen even to each other, I believe modem is OK. I have tried hard re-sets, reformatted, re-installed programs without success. Any remedy available?

Check that you don't have Auto Switch Off in Control Panel set to more than 30 minutes. There is a strange bug where this normally causes the machine to reset when you try to use the IR port. It can also cause other problems when you use the IR port without actually resetting.

Thank you for the solution: reducing Auto-Off timer to less than 30 minutes, all infrared functions now working fine. I had timer set very high as I needed to re-calibrate battery indicator. Tried to solve one Mako problem, encountered another unforeseen one.
