Hi Stef

We had a "Top 5" thread a little while back which you might like to have a look at:

http://www.pdastreet.com/forums//showthread.php?s=&threadid=1470

I guess my top five hasn't really changed (my top essential is actually Opera, but I don't consider that to be an "add-on" since it is now part of the netBook OS):

1) MSN Messenger Force
2) Collins Spanish/English dictionary
3) Safe Place
4) nICQ
5) Vexed

Since we're not limited to five this time (generous of you, Stef!) then I could add a few more:

6) Mocha PPP (Ok, it's not an EPOC app, but since it lets my Psion share the PC's Net connection, I count it as such)
7) PsiDat (not used extensively at the moment, but I expect to be doing so for a future project)
8) MBM View
9) Reset Plus
10) TomeRaider

Booby prize for the most useless and pointless has to got to WinEPOC, in my opinion.

Short of time at the moment - I'll come back and add in some URLs a bit later.

OK stef, you forced me into it :)

1. Tools - I love it's Extra bar replacement and System Screen
2. PsiLoc - Lot's of utilites, nicely integrated
3. Assistant - nice way to add shortcuts to the system
3. DCP - nice graphical GUI - but doesn't do macros, so I use Assistant more
4. ProjXpert - Great for linking contacts,Todos, etc and tracking calls
5. MPocket - read my news on it all the time
6. Tomeraider - can carry lots of reference material with me
7. Money
8. SafePlace - one word - passwords...

Dissapointments:
Merlin - I love the GUI, but I found my batteries eaten because it diabled the auto-switch off (even if I didn't have a battery monitor on the toolbar) and cause my touch-screen to stop responding until I would do a soft-reset. So I had to stop using it.

My choices are listed below in no particular order ...

Programming
I've just started learning how to code in OPL but so far these have been invaluable ...
MBMView
Sadly this cannot be registered any more since the author passed away.
Symbian Text Editor
Good for some OPL tasks but mainly used for PHP and HTML coding.
PsiDat
As well as being a great stand-alone database this is the perfect tool for looking at OPL-created databases.

Productivity
RMRBank
I have relied on this for years and cannot see myself switching. This is one of the applications that convinced me to move from Palm back to EPOC.
Quiklist
Great for keeping simply lists.
Pdf+
Great for viewing PDFs (which I use a lot).

General Utilities
Compact
Reclaims space in 'bloated' files.
Merlin
I've had no problems lilke those described by struesda so I'm happy with it. This is the most recent addition to my must-have list.
Macro5
An essential time-saver.
RMRZip
An essential space-saver.
EpocSync
I have several EPOC devices and this keeps them all synchronised.

Games
Sokoboxx
Just fantastic! I've been a great fan of this game for a long time and the numerous levels available on the internet keep it interesting.
Z80
Used for Hear Over Heels, The Sentinel, Pyjamarama, Finders Keepers and many other classics.
Monopoly
Wonderful fun and a reasonably challenging game.
Vexed
The one really good thing to come out of my Palm days was persuading Ewan to convert this to EPOC.

My most used and liked:

1. ChartNote - my own program, but I use it daily!
2. Macro5 - very useful for text pasting and automated key entry
3. Start5 - I use the old 2.0 version which works great as a task switcher. Fairly easy to program plug-ins for also.
4. Wordbox - a much overlooked way to kill time!
5. Ebook - I use an older freeware version for reading text files.
6. Navigator - nice for file manipulation and zip/unzip.
7. Psolly - simple graphics, but nice implementation of solitaire - and freeware!

Here is my "10+1" favourite list:
1) Nconvert (Neuon)
2) Pdf (mBrainsoftware)
3) Savemail (Sergio Alisi http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/bridge/1492/)
4) Reclaim (FreEpoc)
5) Phoneman
6) EpocSync (FreEpoc)
7) Essential data utilities
8) Mobipocket Reader V4.4
9) PsiBatt
10) Psidat (actually haven't used it yet, but I think I will in the near future)
10+1) nSwitcher (neuon)

I have both a nB and a 5mx: that's why I did not mention programs such as Opera, NetstatRF, nFTP which are standard apps on the nB.

I found this thread very interesting, since I learnt about programs I had never heard about before.

Alright then, in no particular order:

Backup - Ralph Sprenger's perfect internal-to-CF backup software.

DreamConnect (http://www.dreamspring.com) - brilliant Contacts replacement that allows you to assign categories. This means multiple 'separate' lists of Contacts all kept in the one file :) It also has a super-fast and accurate search facility.

Macro5 - very, very useful. Took me ages to work out how to use it tho

PhoneMan - complete phone management plus SMS without fiddly number keys!

JB5Utils - Finds temp files, large files, duplicate files, directory sizes..

RMRText - pure text/hex editor

SafePlace - just so long as i don't forget the password for it ;)

Global Find - find text inside files.

PsiMind - mindmapping software.

EDoom - just to show off to my CE-owning friends ;-)

Disappointments?

WinEPOC! The irony is, it clogs your machine up with tons of tiny files just like Windows does to a PC :D :D

I was interested to see that you have Yahoo Messenger Force on your list of favourite software. I assume you mean the one from Ruksun? I have never managed to get it to connect, and others have said the same thing, so I'd be interested to know if you had any problems with it.

My trial version expired long ago, so I gave up on it - no point in registering something that appears not to function - but maybe I should give it another go. Ruksun's MSN version works fine for me, by the way, but not their version of AIM.

RMRTask - It alone has made the PDA worth carrying in my pants pocket. Very useful if you got too much on your plate, so to speak.

Does anyone know of a 5mx conversion of Revo's cascade?

Does anyone know of a 5mx conversion of Revo's cascade? There is one called TileFall - it's not a replica of Cascade, but is very similar to play. It's shareware from Neuon:

You could always get SameGame from Jon Read's site ... Jon converted SameGame to the Revo, called it Cascade and Psion liked it so much that it appears in the ROM. You can get it from http://epoczone.com/jon/samegame.php3 and it is freeware.

Nice one, Simon! You know SO much more than I do about game-playing! ;)

Seriously, that seems to be precisely what jhelton is looking for - excellent. :D

Some of these sound really interesting (e.g. pfd+/pdf, ebook, PsiMind.

Anyone like to add some URLs where they can be found?

Thanks,

Don't remember the URLs for most of my suggestions - go to Google and put in the name of the app followed by 'EPOC' (e.g. 'PsiMind EPOC') and you should find them.
