I can't get ActiveSync 3.6 to detect my Toshiba e740. I've been through the troubleshooter multiple times. I've done everything suggested in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 264693 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q264693 repeatedly.
The problem seems to be that when I run the ActiveSync "Get Connected" wizard, as soon as I plug the Sync Cradle into the USB port, Window's "Add New Hardware" dialog pops up.
What am I doing wrong?

Using ActiveSync, that's what. But since as far as I know you have no choice, here's what I found:
1. Click the 'Install software from a list or specific location'
2. Pick 'Don't Search'.
Your machine should be listed there. (Twice, in my case....)
If that doesn't help, join AACA - Association to Assassinate the Creator of ActiveSync.

Thanks, it finally found the right file on the CD and started working.
Then I found out the hard way that "syncing" is not the same as "backing up." I found the little check box when I was trying to restore.
Is there an alternative to Activesync & where do I sign up for this club?

God I wish I knew.
(In my last post the smiley didn't come up after the AACA part, for the record.)
