I have a problem with the level of discharge current after using RMRNews.

I use Pass-Thru to piggyback on my PC's modem. After Pass-Thru is activated I start RMRNews and download the newsgroup postings. When the download is complete I Disconnect from Internet from within RMRNews and exit from Pass-Thru. Using ChaDis to monitor the battery the discharge current while at is was between 60 and 70mA. If I soft-reset the mako the discharge current reduces to between 40 and 45 mA.

I conclude from this that a process is still executing and drawing current. I have taken great care to Disconnect from Internet after downloading and before closing Pass-Thru, but to no avail.

Before I contact RMR and the author, does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Regards
Colin Messer

Not sure it would do much good contacting RMR. The bugs in RMRNews have never been fixed since its original release, as far as I'm aware, and it seems the author has no interest in further work on the application. I posted a message in the newsgroups about some of the bugs earlier today:

1) Downloads are very slow and it takes as long to download only the headers as it does to download the complete messgage, so download the message in the first place.

2) It can forget which messages have already been read and start downloading all of the messages on the server. I'm not sure of the exact conditions which trigger this but it seemed to happen to me when there were two conditions both present - (a) I didn't post messages from my outbox before downloading new messages and (b) I wasn't displaying my *first* subscribed
newsgroup on screen when starting the download - but this could well be just coincidence on occasions when it started downloading all messages on the server.

3) I rarely use it now but when I posted from RMRNews I was told by other users that it messed up the threading and my posts weren't where they should have been.

I certainly haven't heard of a problem with the application not closing down properly and continuing to draw battery current, though I only use it with my 5mx.

Agreed. I sync each evening and review the messages on the 7.08 into London Waterloo each morning.

I use the newsgroups for lurking. Rather like PsionPlace, it's rare that I can get to a thread quick enough to contribute anything novel.

RMRNews is the only game in town so I'll monitor my pattern of use and the current drain and try and spot the error.
