My Dell Axim in currently in production, and i have a few questions...

How long does the 1440 Mah battery last?
(I was thinking about 7 hours)

This refers to a post a little while down, the toshiba 5 Gig PC Card, Type II. Does it work, do u need a special adapter or something?
(I tried searching for an adapter, but they are only the other way around, CF to PCC; so I recon it should work but i have limited funds and don't want to buy junk that won't work)

>>>>>>>
If this worked, i could theoretically play Diablo 2 on my Pocket PC! That would be beyond cool......
>>>>>>>

Is the Pocket PC shipped before/after/on the estimated shipping date? Ill die of anxiousness if it takes till Jan. 20!

thanks in advance

First of all...it all depends on what you do for the 1440mah battery life. Using a wireless network card I can get about 1-2 hours nonstop. When writing word documents I can get about 6-7 hours. When listening to music, watching movies, or playing games I can get about 3-4 hours...it all depends on usage. As for the Toshiba 5gb PCMCIA card...it should work with the right adapter. The adapter you were talking about will NOT work. You need a PCMCIA-CF adapter theoretically (did I spell that right?) would. As for playing Diablo II...not possible since it is made to run on Windows not on Pocket PC. Also, Dell has been pretty good on shipping unless you are buying the 300mhz one...they seem to be more popular since IMO aren't that much different
Hope this helps,
Mark

thats just a sales pitch man. unless you can somehow defy the laws of physics and stick that 1.8" pcmcia card into the <1" cf slot or the dell axim some how has a secret pcmcia slot that no one knows about, it's not gonna work. I'm sure their statement mainly refers to the ipaq, which has a pcmcia expansion sleeve.

There is an adapter available somewhere out there for PCMCIA to CF. My friend has one for his axim (I will be getting one for mine if/when I ever get my axim shipped from Dell...yes it's the 300 with accessories due the 22nd of Jan). He uses it for the old PCMCIA 40M Click discs to store mp3's. So, it is possible to use this monster drive. :-)

I read the drive is dual voltage so that should be no problem. The only drawback I can see to the 5G card is power consumption. It's a lot of storage yes, but how long can you use it on the standard battery.

If anyone tries this let me know, if not I will post results toward the beginning of Feb. after I get mine because I will definitely be trying it.

ouch that thing is pretty impracticle. only reason why I would like a pcmcia -> cf converter is to use the cisco wi-fi w/ LEAP cards for my axim since thats the only card I can use at my school. As for memory I'm just gonna get a microdrive.
btw if you guys are willing to spend that much for that pcmcia card + an adapter JUST for mp3s, just buy a friggan ipod, it'll probably be cheaper.

My friends is a rugged-ized version. It's black and flexible, but does flop around a slight bit if it's not setting on something. NO WAY would I buy the one on the link listed above. I'm just too damned clumsy. I'd break that thing after just a few uses I'm sure. Of course, having to use an adapter like this is not ideal for everyday use to store main programs on etc... but for movies or MP3s on long trips, or for extremely large files it's ideal. Not to mention the ability to interface with a laptop easily (if you ever need to) like I will.

I'll have to check with him on the brand and where he got it, but he did tell me when he first got it that it was only like 30 bucks.

So, we are talking about a total of about 250-275 dollars. In comparison to the IBM 1G which would run about what? 200-225 dollars. Lots more bang for your buck, but the IBM microdrive doesn't stick out like a third leg either!

Pick your poison! :-)
