Backlight Life

Does anyone have an idea what the life expectancy of the backlight is? I just got a replacement and the backlight would not stay on in the cradle. My first one would stay on indefinitely. I thought this one was defective. When I wrote to Handera they said the backlight should not stay on. I asked if there was a "life" to the backlight and their answer was technically yes, in practice no. Not sure what that means. Under normal use it will last forever?

I have downloaded a hack that will set the backlight to stay on while in the cradle and this seems to work. I just don't want to "burn out" the backlight.

Any help here?
