I am planning on installing one @ home for use with my T|T. http://www.bluetake.com/Products/BT300.htm MSIMON 01-09-2003, 04:38 PM The reason why I asked the question was I found this on Ebay. Also with Belkin annoucing the new lan access point 149.00 the price is starting to get to my range. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2 F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=bluetooth+access+point:) mmmkay 01-09-2003, 07:33 PM Hey that looks pretty sweet, like 7 bluetooth devices connected directly into my own network.. mmm mmm. I don't have 7 bluetooth devices either :p Not like I'll be getting LAN speeds. I wonder if they have Bluetooth adapters in PCI format like they do for wifi cards. That would be nice add in to my server box in the closet. USB would work too, but then what if somebody pulls it out? How much are the USB dongles now anyway? Up here in Canada they probably cost like 3 times as much :D mmmkay 01-09-2003, 07:35 PM I just noticed on the BlueTake page: Supports Bluetooth LAN Access profile Does the T support the LAN access profile? I remember seeing stuff about serial port profile only. MSIMON 01-09-2003, 08:47 PM Well the Pico access point and the Widcomm Bkuegate access point are compatible according to Palm. They also support the lan access profile. Would be interesting to hear from anyone using those. I purchased the Bluetake access point and should receive it in 5 business days. Bought from a guy in Canada of all places. Mike mmmkay 01-09-2003, 10:26 PM Oh, I meant if the T supports the LAN access profile. I'm pretty sure it would. It seems unlikely such an expensive device would be unable to use LAN's if the OS has wifi support :) MSIMON 01-09-2003, 11:16 PM Seems like it should work fine. Once I get it up and running I am probably going to attempt a few different configurations to cover my house. These old walls are prety thick. Well for $125 plus shipping it is worth the try. I will let you know. Mike MSIMON 01-15-2003, 09:54 PM The access point just came in. You need a bluetooth PC to configure the thing but it only takes a few minutes to setup. No soft resets using the Lan Access profile. Great! Email accounts and websites come down fairly quick. Much faster than through my notebook using the mocha solution. Downsides: 1. I don't have complete coverage in my house. I was planning on modifying the antenna. I have a radio buddy he can help with that. If the T was a little stronger it would probably fine. 2. I could not setup the access point from the network connection. Seems a little weak. but I had to install a bluetooth adapter on my wife's computer since my notebook is at the office. Lucky I had a spare. Upsides: I can sit on the stoop outside my house and access the net with my T. Mike PDA Street
