How do you use your Axim? How do you justify it's existence over a lowly, cheap monochrome PDA?
Right now I just use mine for a PIM, with a few spreadsheets in it.
I'm just curious how you all are using yours and getting value from them.

i use my Axim for gaming, music, movie, school, and the internet...if I ever need to replace it then it'll be another axim (unless of course the 700+ dollar ipaqs go down to about 200-300) ;)

did you say "justify"?
remember waaay back when there was only black and white tv?(not applicable to all)
well how did your dad justify the purchase of colour tv to your mom?
yeah right, he didn't.
if you are still looking at a monochrome screen in the 21st century you have more problems that asking how anyone can justify getting an axim5.
step to the plate and say "because i want it!"" i deserve the best because i am the best!"
no justification needed if you really care about youself and if those around you really love you.

Thanks for all the useful feedback. Any more ideas?
Like my original post said - I already have an Axim. I'm just looking to maximize it's value to me. I use it at work to organize my calls, contacts, contractors, calendar, notes, and memos. I also have some PDF documents in it for reference, some Excel spreadsheets that I turn to, and some study material for MS cert exams. I also use AvantGo to keep up to date on certain websites. I've tossed in a few pics of my wife and my dogs to show to interested people (funny, not too many of those!). I downloaded the Daredevil movie trailer and I use that to show off how cool my Axim is to the unlearned ;)
So let's keep this thread going to help all of us out!

For the things I can't remember, I put into my pocket Brian; AKA Axim. Keep track of finance using Macrosuck Money, Traveler for the obvious reasons, it tracks all my trip events and expenses. Carry manuals in PDA format. Calculator, for the mathematically (can't even spell it) impaired, and family pictures. I have some other ideas that I keep to my self for now.

I read ebooks
read news and weather offline with Avantgo
listen to music
watch video
store contacts
make to-do lists
store random notes
play games
use the calculator
do email occasionally
Eventually I will set up a wireless network so I can use it as a TV guide, surf the Internet, check email, etc. around the house.
For $100 I could do most things with a lowly monochrome Palm but the color screen and multimedia capabilities of the Axim more than justify the extra $100 for me.

I keep checkbook balance in an Excel worksheet. I also keep a running tab of bills that need to be paid, and when in another worksheet. Keep track of my workout and diet on yet another spreadsheet. Have some music, and a fair number of pictures. Also bought Simcity 2000 and DL'd a few other games.

I'm actually a future Axiom owner (currently have a Jornada 548) but that being said...
The Windows CE machines are so much more powerful and faster there really isn't a good comparison with a personal organizer or Palm product. I will buy the Axiom 400 MHz machine not only because of what it will do now but for the future as well.
Once Palm, Visor et. al. are gathering dust on flea market shelves and the Goodwill stores the Axiom will still be useful. The only reason the Palm OS products still exist are the unfortunates that purchased large volumes of them before a viable pocket computer came onto the scene.
The beauty of these machines for me is that I can play high quality stereo music from WMS or MP3 while also playing games, reading e-books or downloaded web pages. No Palm product I'm aware of can multitask like this.
Mine is constantly in use. I even carry technical reference

(Sorry ran out of rambling room)
... materials burned into e-book format. I use the CF card to transfer large files from my desktop at work to my home PC (like powerpoint presentations and stuff) that won't fit on a floppy. My wife plays mostly games. I carry two complete Bibles (different versions) that have complete concordance search engines that are AWSOME.
Since this is a computer and not a LCD pocket calendar it's applications are pretty incredible. I would be interested to see a study on how PDA's may have impacted the laptop market.
I think the question really should be: Why on the planet would anyone be ill advised enough to buy a $400 + Palm product that can only do a fraction of what the Dell will do for much less money?
I use mine primarily for work as a PIM (Outlook e-mail, calander, task list). I like having pocket word and excel to view my e-mail attachments. Also, I have several drug information data bases, pain management dose conversion tables etc. (very handy for a pharmacist when asked questions).
I use it to play MP3 files. mostly for teachings by our pastor, but also some music files. I have a KJV version of the bible.
I have just started downloading some e-books and this looks like a pretty handy tool when traveling.
I also use avant go to keep up with various buisiness, and sports sites.
Last, but not least, I do play some games.
Overall, it is very usefull for work and cuts down a lot of books etc. I would normally take as carry on luggage when doing business travel.

When my X5 finally arrives, I will use Margi Presenter to do Powerpoint slide shows. Lugging my laptop in and out of airports is a pain in the butt. My boss is amped about it - she's getting one too.
