Toshiba e740 or Dell Axim X5?

I am debating on which one of these pocket pc's to buy. I have heard many problems with the e740, but it has a lot of features. I've also heard good things about the Dell, just not about customer service (Toshiba isn't any better). So my questions are, how is the quality of the Dell compared to the e740, and i'm not talking about the customer support, but the actual product, especially screen lighting and color. When i read reviews on these products, they are mostly with test models, so they only compare the products with more recent products. I was also wondering if the dell is any good for gaming? Finally, based on personal experience, what do you recommend?

well for one thing you should realize, there is a huge price difference between the two, the e740 is twice as much, if you have that budget, I'd just get a 39xx ipaq. but from what I heard the e740 has a few problems, the backlight for the screen is not even, meaning the center of the screen will be brighter than the edges. also the built in 802.11b sucks up the batteries on it. for some reason it would use up more power being built in rather than used in expansion. but if u want to know about good screen, take a look at the ipaq 39xx series, it has the most beautiful screen I've seen on a pda.

well i wouldn't say twice the price, because the e740 compares to the Dell Axim 5 (400mhz) which sells for $300. I know someone who just purchased the e740 for $369. So technically, by the time you buy a wireless card for your Axim, it'll come out to about the same.
That said, I own a toshiba e570 and am very happy with it, but I've heard some people who had a nightmarrish time with their e740 while others love it. So you're kinda taking a gamble with the toshiba, where as problems reported by the Axim are a lot less frequent and serious.

for $369? wow I've looked in the wrong places hehe, I've seen them for $500

yeah...that's the price at like bestbuy, but there are a few online retailers that sell em for a lot less.

I reccomend the Axim over the E740 for many reasons..

1) Axim is much much cheaper...(the 300mhz is only 200 compared to the atleast 400+ in most places)

2) Battery life in the Axim is much better since it doesn't have built-in wifi which sucks up battery life

3) The screen quality of the Axim is great...one of the best except of course for the Ipaq. The E740's screen isn't that bright and unevenly backlit (every test model I played with was like that)

The only thing that I like about the Toshiba better than the Axim is it's size...it doesn't seem as bulky as the Axim.

Thanks for all the replies, i think i'll go with the axim, i don't want to take my chances with the Toshiba, and i don't really care about size.

btw, good luck getting yours ASAP...the axims have been shipping out pretty slow because of high demand (especially the 300mhz version)
