Hi all I finally have the Series 7 with the personality module for netbook which i have not installed yet. My series 7 has 32 meg which means if i put in the personality module i have to take 16 meg out. . what would you guys suggest, stay with the series 7 until i can get my hands on the 64 meg memory???
However i want to use Opera on my psion and i believe that Opera is free in the netbook software..

Hope you can help
Thanks

I had a similar quandary. However I could not wait and upgraded the same day I got the module (and this included the removal of the 16mb module, which I have now sold on). The machine works fine at just 16mb, as long as you keep the c: drive clear and install any additional programs on a CF (D Drive).

Also set you email application and contacts to store their data on the D: drive as well to save space on C. If you follow these rules, you will have happy 7book times at a noticeably increased processor speed !!!

I think you will find that you can more than cope without upgrading your machine to 64mb as a lot of current netbook and 7book owners.

If you are very keen to obtain the module, then the cheapest place is from a website http://www.srsgmbh.de/en/index1.html.
They will post it cash on delivery and you should get it within a week if they still have stock. It is alot cheaper than the Expansys route and alot less time to wait !!

Let us know if you need any other info.

Hi Kenny

Glad to hear you finally got your hands on the fledgling 7Book :).

Having used a standard netBook for well over two years now, I have finally got around to ordering the memory upgrade for it, and am looking forward to its arrival, but I certainly don't regard it as a necessity. I have the majority of extra apps installed to CF card, and have only encountered memory problems when I've overstretched the system - for example trying to run Time, Agenda, Opera, e-mail and two instant messengers all at the same time.

I'm pretty much in accord with Si's comments, and would say install the netBook module ASAP!

Can anyone tell me if I replace the psion 7 personality chip with the netbook upgrade chip to hopefully produce a 7book build standard 758 - can I then reverse the operation and replace the original psion 7 chip to get my psion 7 build standard 756 back?

Or is this upgrade permanent?

With kindest regards,

David

I have moved a 7 to netBook and back and netBook to 7 and back.

The process is very much two-way.

David,

As Marty says, the process is reversible as when you install the OS, once the netbook personality module is installed, this is all on the module and does not affect the main motherboard at all. To revert, just swap the modules and you should have a 7 again. But once in 7book mode you won't want to go back.....feeeeel the speed !! lol

Marty/Si,

Thank you very much. I have now done it ie gone from Psion 7 to Netbook and back again.

Your advice/shared experience was very helpful. I thought I might lose the Psion 7 o/s initially which was why I asked the question but no worries at all.

Thank you for your help.

With kindest regards,

Dave
