can't install activesync 3.5 on home pc

just got a new dell axim but can't install activesync on pc at home- i've uninstalled norton antivirus and any other software i thought might block but still nothing. When I go to install from either the CD or the microsoft website all i get is a blank screen- no error message- nothing. I've tried contacting dell but they seem to be baffled as well. I know it my computer b/c I tried installing it on a friends computer and it worked- any ideas anybody?

if this is a "work" pc that you are using, it might have a system administrator block on it...

I had to open the CD and then open the ActiveSync folder and click on Setup (StartUp?) there and it ran fine. Called Dell yesterday and I'm pretty sure she said (tough English and bad connection) there is a known problem with some CDs and is shipping a new one - 2 day.
