Greetings...
Igot an 'Malaysian' netBook recently, and Ihave some problem with the screen... can someone tell me whether these are normal, as I don't have much experience with these machines?
1) There is a 'dead' pixel - meaning that it is sort of black and doesn't work properly. Is this very common?
2) Around the middle of the screen/ there is a kind of a circle which seems a bit different than the rest of the screen. This is hard to explain, but it is quite visible when the background is a dark colour. Otherwise not really too much.... When Ipress the back of the screen, then a kind of distortion is visible around that spot. Is this common??
3) The previous two are not too bad, but this third one is a bit worrying... PS I have only had the netbook for around two days...
Sometimes a line becomes visible. one pixel thick and green, about two centimetres in from the left of the screen/ and extending from the top to about half way down...
After a few seconds it dissappears...
Now, this seems to indicate a problem with the connector for the screen or something.
Is this problem quite common, bearing in mind that my netbook is virtually new?!?
(PS the place above the keyboard inbetween the on switch and the pen 'pushing' switch, is there supposed to be a label there? Because it is not there, and you can see a screw visable... so I am wondering if the machine may have been opened before? Any mBook owners care to comment?)
Thanks...

Sorry to say but this does not sound good at all. Send it back time by the sounds of things.
Yes there should be a netbook elipticle label in the middle above the number keys
Hi,
From what I understand and have seen, the Malaysian Netbook does not have the label inside it cos they removed it for the project and put a MySchoolBook label there instead. There are a few with the MySchoolBook label but from what I understand, most of them do not have this label.
I too have this white spot on the screen. This happens when I touch or press on the back of the screen ( a bubble like spot appears). I thought this was normal.
Do not have the rest of the symtoms you mentionedl

Although I have an mnetbook, I have none of the problems with my screen that are described here.
If I press on the back of the screen, I do see some distortion, but it is only temporary and perhaps to be expected.
I do have an empty spot between the two switches where a label ought to be, however.

1) There is a 'dead' pixel.
This can occur on all LCD screens and is not a problem, it is less common now as manufacturing processes for LCDs has improved.
2) Around the middle of the screen/ there is a kind of a circle which seems a bit different than the rest of the screen.
This sounds like there is a case distortion as this type of ring should not be visible unless the screen is pushed from the back or twisted in some way.
3) Sometimes a line becomes visible. one pixel thick and green,
I have seen this before on a desktop LCD screen, preasure on the screen did temporaraly remove the line. This suggests a slight manufacturing problem and seconds the possibility that the screen is slightly distorted in the mBook's frame.
I would suggest that all these issues are workable with though it might indicate a shortened life span for the screen. Psion Screen replacements are quite expensive.

Abdullah,
I am sorry to hear abt yr screen. Luckily I don't have this problem. What is the warranty period they gave u? U should be able to get a replacement because it is a defect. Just send them an email first to complain and request for a replacement. They should be able attend to u. I once send them a email to compain abt the CF drawer and they said I could exchange it for a new one.

Thanks everyone for replying!
Actualy, it is not such a big problem. I am happy with the netbook even so. If I was in Malaysia and could walk down the street and swap the machine, that would be nice! But it would be so much hassle to send it back and get a replacement just for one pixel! But I did email them and their support was very fast and cooperative.
Anyway, I think I will just keep it. The pixel is not too bad, the distortion seems normal according to the posts here, and I hope the green line problem does not come back again!!!
Thanks for your help everyone!

But isn't it worth a trip to Mont Kiara - a not so far off suburb - since I understand you stay in Kuala Lumpur?
If you bought it from Sita, that's where their office is.

No, I live in London, England! I did buy it from SITA though. They sent it all the way here!

Hi
It doesn't have to be that way!
This is a known problem.
I have had the same problem with a Netbook I bought from Exapnsys and had to return it.
I also heard the same issue from another freind of mine.

I have the same problem as well in terms of the white circle in the middle. Sita mentioned that its a common problem and they wont replace it for me. =(
I have another issue with the screen tho, not sure if i can explain it well enough but if i have a darkish wallpaper, i can see the flow of the electrons (whatever you call it) running from the left to the right of the screen.
These particles can be quite large in a sense but can only be seen when you have a dark wallpaper. is this due to the fact that its a passive LCD screen?
is this normal?
thanks

Yes, I think it is due to the screen technology and is indeed normal.
