Just got my Axim on Wednesday. I'm new to PDAs and have been looking around for "must have" apps (for free of course :p ). So far I loaded:
*PocketTV - very cool
*PocketPC Expense - will be useful when my co allows business travel again
*AvantGo
*Dell patch for 5th button
*Encarta Pocket Dictionary or MS Reader
*Pocket Hotmail (cant get it to work- see previous post)
*and various games which i already removed (not impressed)

. . . Also accessorized it with a Sandisk SD 128MB Memory card from Staples for $39.94 (after a $40 rebate) and a DLink wireless CF Card (DCF-660W) from Best Buy for $39.95 (after a $40 rebate).

I did some experimenting to find some open (i.e. free) Wi-Fi hot-spots, but was not too successful.

I'd be interested in people's suggestions on GREAT shareware or accesories I may have overlooked. Also any insight on how to take advantage of the Wi-Fi card on the go. T-mobile offers a Metered Plan or pay-as-you-go plan, but ...

Starbucks :) Almost all of the starbucks in America now have WAP's connected to a cable modem. So you can bring your laptop (or in your case PDA), get a cup of coffee, and surf the net. There are some sites that provide WI-FI hotspots around the U.S. As for games I recommend Lemonade, INC. Diamond Mine, RayMan, Done in 50 Seconds, Hyperspace Delivery Boy, Tennis Addict, and motocross stunt racer. Apps I'm not too sure as I am only 13 and more interested in games ;)

I thought that all the Starbucks required that you buy access through T-Mobile? Are they giving it away free now? Starbucks and free would be a first.

Nope...Starbucks is not picking up the tab for free internet access. If you try your PCC there, you will be confronted with a t-mobile login screen.

fyi...good article on "Freenets"
http://popularmechanics.com/technology/computers/2002/9/freeware_everywhere/index.phtml

www.nycwireless.net has a link to find free hotspots in the NY metropolitan area.

be sure to wear some flowers in your hair. Oh wait, that was 30 years ago. ;) Instead, take your handheld to connect in the airport.

I assume that the T-Mobile offering is similar to what's available at Starbucks?

I just heard the other day that McDonalds was going to start offering 1Hr of wireless internet with the purchase of a value meal.

"Would you like some porn with your fries"....lol.

I've been spending a lot of time on aximsite.com (http://www.aximsite.com/) lately, but I thought I'd stop back to update my app list after two months of use:

If interested, you can find it here:
