How do you know if your cell phone can be used as a modem without calling the company, and what do you need to do that (sofware?)? Thanks again! :confused:

I haven't tried it but, you can download avntgo at www.avantgo.com. If your phone has an IR port you should be able to use it.

IR capable phones are not too common. YOU can use Google to find the specs on your particular phone. Also Palm.com had a listing of compatable cell phones. If you inrtend to use the phone as a modem you will also need to determine if your cell service can offer the data connection.

I used to use my Nokia 8290 to connect my m505 to internet via IR. I used Cingular Wireless for my cell phone carrier. You'll also need a regular dial-up ISP for internet access. I had to contact Cingular to have them enable Data Connect, which cost an additional $4.95 per month. Finally, you'll have to choose a web browser if you plan on surfing. I tried Blazer, PocketLink, AvantGo (did you know it can be used as a web browser?!!!), EudoraWeb, and PalmScape, which is now Xiino. I chose PalmScape because the screens it produced looked more like a "normal" web page to me. Blazer was a close second. Hope my info helps you.
