Has anyone tried to connect to the internet in the office where the host PC requires a proxy to connect to the internet?

Here in my office we have a proxy configured through Internet Explorer and I suspect the Palm Web Pro is not connecting because it tries to connect directly without the proxy.

I wonder if there is a method for configuring Palm Web Pro for use with a proxy but I don't see it...

I am using MochaPPP/Belkin Bluetooth USB to connect to the internet in the office - at home it works just fine with the cable modem which has no proxy.

Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks -Kim

been trying to find a way as well...i havent actually tried it with a PDA but am thinking...

if your PC can connect to the internet without having to specifically configure a proxy into the PC app (ie netscape,IE), the PDA should be able to get thru as the PC is just acting as a gateway of sorts...right?

there are 'socksifiers' that you can install onto your PC...configure the socks app with the SOCKS servers <of course, youd need to know the names of these guys...normally port 1080> then, delete the proxy settings on your PC app.

then try it out on your palm...hope this helps.

The Web Pro manual says the host server webpro.palm.com is a proxy server.

Maybe you should try and set the host name to you company proxy. Seems a little painfull since you would probably have to change it once you got home.

Note: you should not change this setting from it's default "webpro.palm.com" unless you are told to do so by your system administrator.

Not from me but in the section of the manual.

Do you know if web pro supports http authentication?

The manual only talks about a security in terms of using advanced encription technology for transmitting and receiving data. Since Palm Webpro (Created by Novarra) is using http://www.certicom.com security I suspect something is there but not controlled by the user.

The WAP has encripted key feature built although I haven't even started on that yet. Next project.
