I normally HotSync to my office desktop (MS-Windows 2000). However, for added flexibility and security I would like to also synchronize with my home machine.

According to HotSync manager help, synchronizing my Palm Vx between two PC's should be a simple matter.

However, when trying to synchronize with my home (MS-Windows 98) computer the operation fails. The HotSync Log contains the following message:

"HotSync Error: Failed to resolve user name (8004)"

My understanding is that the HotSync should automatically create the user name. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Any help gratefully received!

Launch the HotSync app on your Palm and note the username in the top righthand corner.
Now launch your Palm Desktop. Is the username in the top righthand the same?

Make sure there are no spelling or space errors.

I've checked this. The spelling, spaces etc. are exactly the same...

Have you checked to see if the file/folder structure is set up correctly? ......Palm/<user name>/Backup.

A bit more.
The early Desktop Software set the path from the main tree as a Folder named "Pilot" later the folder changed to "Palm" and now the Desktop installs in "Programs"/Palm/user name/backup. That is unless you over write the path.
