Did anyone else besides me seen the new Toshiba PPC? I was visiting my local Compusa to check out some LCD and 21" CRT displays and passed by the PDA area and saw this!!!!

TOSHIBA GENIO E550G (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=294962)

Let me tell you, this PPC beats anything out there! Big screen, the largest out there and in color! Light weight, runs the latest 400Mhz CPU w/ 64MB and has CF and SD capabilities!!!! It retails for US$599 at Compusa. Have to start selling stuff to get this baby toy!

HEllo:)
I remember reading a post where someone was at the counter buying it but the manager came and said he couldnt sell it because it had battery trouble and they were having to send it back to Toshiba. I dont know the results of this but I am wondering if all of the CompUSA's did this or only that one or a select few.

I did a good amount of research on this unit, and was surprised to find that's not new at all, but has been available in Europe and Asian for some time. CompUSA is the only US retailer able to offer it under exclusive agreement from Toshiba. On the plus side, awesome BIG screen.

On the down side, no mention of it on Toshiba's US web site, so I question support for it. It's also the same price at the e740, which has built in Wi-Fi and removable battery, the Genio doesn't.

...agreed! The Toshiba 740 is more of what I'm looking for but if it only had the screen of the E550G!!! It's like going from a 17" CRT to a 21"!!! It does make a difference but it lacks the WiFi and the changeable battery.

Also, the E550G is really a cross technology of Toshiba AND Audiovox! When you buy it you have to log into Audiovox's website to get it's warranty.

I bought one last week during the Comp USA special. I pondered long and hard over it and the e740. The screen was great and it was ok till I began to have a backlight problem. I couldn't get it to hold its settings. I called Toshiba technical support and was quite quickly told that they don't support the device. It is actually marketed by Audiovox. I called them (on Sat) to find out that they are only open M-F 8-4 for support. That is why you can't find the model on Toshiba's web page. I took it back and got the e740.
