I was on Homebase's site at the weekend on my 7book, trying to buy something. On arriving at the login page, I go the error "java error, email address not valid".
Is the Psion "@" character different from the ascii standard? I haven't had this problem anywhere else and logging in from my pc overcame this problem

Is the Psion "@" character different from the ascii standard? No, otherwise all emails sent from a Psion would fail.

are you sure it was a Java error, and not Javascript? It would be very unlikely that a website would use Java to validate form entry. What has probably occurred is simply that the Javascript on the page was written to work with IE, and has not run as the author intended on Opera.

My company is starting to do a lot of web work and we run into this junk all of the time.

Many shops will use MS tools to dev the sites, and the tools will use IE specific features.

We try to shy away from that.and use standard HTML, but this is NOT the norm out there.
