I'm trying to find more info on the upcoming iDen(Nextel) BlackBerry, but I haven't found anything beyond the initial press release. Anyone know where I can get more information?

FYI - the Nextel BlackBerry is supposed to be out in October of this year. Nextel has said this and so has RIM. No pricing information has yet been made available.

The device itself is similar to a RIM 957 or 5810, however the long dimension has been reduced due to a different screen size. The screen now has an aspect ratio that resembles a TV. There is an external "stubby" antenna. Not very long, but I believe the idea is to get better in-building coverage as compared to an internal antenna. The battery is replaceable, and there is a "push to talk" button on the top of the device.

I don't think any pictures are out yet for the Nextel BlackBerry handheld. Like I said, just imagine a 957 but with a few small changes:

1) ergonomically easier to hold (concave sides, slightly rubberized)
2) short stubby antenna on right side
3) "push to talk" button on top middle
4) removeable battery on back
5) height dimension on screen reduced by about 20%

I would expect the device will be available to the general public some time after Comdex, which is November 16-22 this year.

Upon resetting the message returns after a few minutes.

Found this article yesterday.....looks like Dec 2nd.
*****************************************

November 2002 (Newstream) -- The line between computers and cellular phones is being erased with next generation PDA/phone hybrids. The much-anticipated release of Nextel's BlackBerry 6510 could make everything in the office available in a single handheld device.

The new hybrid combines Nextel's cellular phone service - and its exclusive Direct Connect (TM) 'walkie-talkie' technology - with BlackBerry's wireless email access to make the ultimate business tool. The phone, which looks like a mini-computer with a large format screen and full keyboard, offers many computer functions: secure access to corporate email, a personal organizer with calendar and contacts that works with multiple email and organizer software packages, Internet access and Java-enabled business applications.

The device can also link up to corporate intranets and back office systems, allowing inventory tracking, order entry and other tasks to be done on the run.

BlackBerry PDAs are used by about 13,000 businesses and organizations in North America and Europe. Nextel is a leader in wireless business solutions. The device will be available on December 2, 2002.
