I am using an IBM z50 w/ memory upgrade and am trying to get a Linksys WCF11 to work. I can easily get to the point where I can see strong signal on the z50, but my Linksys router will not auto assign a DHCP assignment to the z50. The z50 even claims this same error. But both are set up to auto assign.

Is there a trick that I have missed somewhere?

Have a z50 along with a coworker. I use an Ambicom. My coworker purchased a Netgear CF but in the end changed to Ambicom. He had a similar problem..It was indicated that Netgear with included driver would work. He could not get DHCP to work. We got it to work with Compact WL100 driver installed-key code must be set to one. It defaulted to Two. Sounds like similar problem...

Some Other simple suggestions to try first though:

1) Try assigning SSID to "any"

2) Make sure your WEP configuration settings in the linksys is the same on both the router and configuration utility for the Linksys CF. I use the linksys router with VPN...

3) Go to Start, Settings, Internet set DHCP keep all the WNS & DNS blank. Hit OK..z50 tells you to reinsert card. Reinsert card.

If all else fails..you could try:

4) downloading the Compact WL100 driver. I use this driver with a trendnet LAN Card that worked with the z50.

Note: with my ambicom..sometimes I have to do a softreset.

Bottom line is that DHCP should work...your problem is probably something pretty simple.
