I've had my 400Mhz Axim for awhile now and I'm interested in gaining internet access while on the road. I have a prepaid card cell phone from Nokia. If I can get an adapter for this do I need to pay a special monthly fee for the internet on my Axim. What about these WiFi cards...would they be a good solution for on the road, miles away from home? What other options are there for getting the internet? Does everything require a monthly fee? If not, what options don't? Thanks and sorry for the most likely stupid questions, I usually am up to date on technology but I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of mobile internet options.

You would need a wierless modem, a national (or local ISP). WiFi is an extended network still local to the host. You need to be in range of your network repeaters. Same cost as regular internet fees you pay in your home. Your ISP might have a deal to look into.

options:

1/ 56K CF modem card: you can connect to your ISP through a modem; LANDLINE NEEDED.

2/ 802.11b CF wireless card: you can connect at high speed internet but onlyif a wireless network is available: NOT TOO MANY ACCESS POINTS.

3/ Cell phone to PDA cable: this lets you use the wireless web option on your cell phone to connect to your pda. Only problem is that the connection is 14.4k, which is somewhat slow. you can purchase the cable at

So if I purchased this: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?category_id=176&keyword=&mnf=&prst=0&prEnd=0&sku=A0072562&mnfsku=&SearchType=&Page=productlisting.aspx&spagenum=3&Pageb4Search=&InStock=&items_per_page=25&orderby=&imageflag=True&refurbished=&c=us&l=en&cs=19&iCompatid= Would I need to sign up for any services or pay anything like a monthly fee? Or with that $110 could I get on the internet?

you would probably have to pay for the cellphone internet access.

Hence the wireless

Check these prices out. Give you a feel. You can do a search for wireless modem compact flash.

the CF 56K modem card DOES require a wire. This card is fairly inexpensive if you buy from somewhere besides Dell. I purchased mine from Dell and ended up paying over $100.00. Also, the CF Ethernet Adapter is much cheaper if you look around. On the phone adapter, if you only going to have a 14.4K connection, I wouldn't waste your time. Even with the 56K modem card that I use away from home, it's pretty slow.

Peviously posted wrong link. Sprint put out a CDMA 1xRTT CompactFlash Modem. $230.00-$350.00. The price you pay to become wireless. T-mobile service. You will also have to buy, I believe, an adapter for CF II card to instert a PCMCIA card. Check on that. Don't have one do to location. But when back in the US, bet your dollar I will get one.
Link is fixed.
