Ok folks...I need MAJOR help.

I am trying to use my Clie T665c via infrared to access the internet.

I have followed Olly Payne's instructions TO THE LETTER (repeatedly I might add) (specifically, these instructions http://www.clieuk.co.uk/connection.shtml).

I can't establish a connection. The best I can get is in the NETWORK screen on my Clie, after pressing "connect" the Clie shows messages that cycle through "Signing On" and "Initializing".

I am Using Win XP Home on the Host PC
I am using a USB IrDA Adapter by BAFO (brand new and it worked for hotsync)
Yes, I did disable the IRDA for Hotsync Manager
Yes, I have an internet connection on the host PC
No, the IR is not obstructed in any way (nor is it too far)

I disabled the IR IMAGE transfer thing

Yes I've verified that all connections are using the same connection speed.

Yes, I've tried to extend the timeout for the virtual comport.

I've tried everything that I can think of...and then some

I have tried this several times...each time making sure to completely uninstall the previous effort and reboot.

And once again...to drive the point home, I followed Olly's instructions TO THE LETTER!!!

PLEASE HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME UP A WALL!!!!!!

Thanks in advance. :)

just use the wire it came with, that will solve all of your headaches.
the ir sensor is not a very good conductor for anything except quick intermittent transmissions, like instanly, like very short, very quick and very ....well you get the point.
think of the ir sensor much like you tv remote, can you surf the net with this?

also with the problem you are describing your ir sensor might just be failing.

Actually, it is possible to surf the net with a television remote. :D

What "Wire that it came with" are you referring to?

The WHOLE POINT to this mess is to do it wirelessly.

And perhaps the TVREMOTE Ir system is best suited for short bursts, but IRDA was designed specifically for sustained data transfer...like sending print jobs to printers...

Regardless, can ANYONE help me get this working? It still doesn't work quite right.

Thanks

sorry for the chit chat
I was refering to the usb(or serial) cable for direct connect.

are you able to beam/receive?
if not, your ir sensor is bad,
if so, check the device you are beaming to/from this also could be your cluprit (my girlfriend spent 2 weeks beaming to a computer that doesnt have an ir sensor!).... if you followed all these directions to the t and dotted the i's and it still doesnt work, I would suggest professional repair!!!!!!

I have tried to setup serial (and IR) connections like this in the past and have come to the following conclusion. Windows XP (and probably other Windows versions) does NOT support Internet sharing on "serial" port connections through Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). So it is entirely possible that your IR connection is working. Your PDA is probably networked with your PC, just Windows isn't routing packets between that network and your external Internet connection.

There are ways to check the network log on the Palm OS (a View Log menu item under network prefs maybe) and incoming serial connection log under XP (it dumps a text file, look under the incoming connection prefs) to see if the connection has been established.

this seems to be a common problem (dumping of files)
i have this problem myself. sometimes.

windows is not a good program for file sharing between 2 devices
maybe try linux

Hi ettanmi,

I just went through the same instructions that you did.
Try the following:
Under (following are page navigations:) 'Printers and Other Hardware' -> 'Wireless Link' -> Infrared -> File Transfer Options, make sure that 'Allow others to send files..' is *unchecked*.
Also, even though the instructions say leave the password field blank, specify a password. On your palm device, specify this same password.

I think this is all I needed to adjust to get it working.

Good luck :).
