Extra IR Port

Ok, here's the deal. I jsut bought a citipack wireless IR keyboard off of ebay, for like 50 bucks. I like the keyboard itself, but I have a couple of gripes about it. One, it doesn't align properly, (yeah we all knew that), and two, if I'm using my wireless lan card, it doesn't work at all!!

So, my plan was to see if there was a way to hook up another IR LED to get a better angle all the time. It's been done on remote controls all the time in order to be able to control stuff from all angles, so I was hoping maybe it could be done with the Axim as well.

My plan?

Well one, I would have to disassemble the axim, and I was plannign on drilling a hole just a little smaller then the LED itself pretty close to right below the soft reset button (this puts the LED right in teh line of site of my keyboard lower LED. Then basically solder the wiring to the existing LED connections and have both of the receive adn be able to transmit. I plan on taking an IR LED from an old learning remote that I have and trying to get it to work with that.

So what i need are ideas or comments from you guys, or anything you see wrong with the idea. But I request please no flames, if you plan on doing that just don't post, I think this woudl be something a lot of Axim owners would maybe like to look into if it worked!!

Sorry, remembered a couple of more questions.

I need some info about the LED itself. Such as the wavelength, lens type, lv(MCD), the IF, and the viewing angle.
