Phoenix routing and Gillson
Used my iQue on a trip to Phoenix this weekend: Two items to report:
First the good news: the Gillson external antenna is awesome. Satellite lock in about 15 secs, 3D Differential most of the time. I'm sold on it. [Note added later: I am concerned about the tiny antenna connector on the Gillson, though. Has anyone had any problems connecting and disconnecting it - like breaking off the connector?]
Not good, but not bad news: Routing from N 7th Ave to Camelback Rd took me on a very circuitous route when any reasonable algorithm would have us head East on 7th and turn left on Camelback. I believe the issue is that during evening rush hour, left turns from 7th to Camelback are not allowed (and there is a suicide lane down the middle of 7th which is postively frightening). I suspect that the database simply shows that left turns can never be made from 7th and hence the weird route. Anyone else experiencing odd routes should consider lane and turn restrictions that may or may not be in effect. For what it's worth, apparently Yahoo Maps plotted a similar route.
Cheers.
