Multitasking: Quick Question

How do i switch between active tasks?

For e.g. While Quefind is busy searching for something, if i go to the map screen or any other screen, how do i get back to my search to see the results of the find? I vaguely remember the manual says that the esc button should take you to the previous screen, but this never worked for me. Help!

I use Switch5 to accomplish this, as far as it goes. But the Palm OS isn't really multitasking, so in the particular example you describe, I think you'll come back to the QueFind main screen again, not to the search result you were looking for. That search is cancelled if you open the map while the search goes on.

If OS 6 for the palm and R4 for the ique hit at the same time we will be up to our armpits with stability issues.

While the iQue is almost certainly capable of running OS6, the problem is that it needs 16MB of memory to reside in. That would cut our memory in half leaving us with only 16MB useable. And that's before the addition of all the Garmin programs. I'm not sure if I want OS6 that badly.

I remember this question being asked before, but can the processor in the iQue be compatible with OS6? I find usually that the newer Palm OS are designed for the fastest and newest processors.

Believe it or not, the processor in the iQue is one of the newest and fastest!

Anders, were you talking about this behavior with Switch5 or without? I installed Swtich5 last night and i dont see a difference in QueFind with/without Switch5. When i switch back to QueFind, it always takes me to the Find main screen, my search is cancelled and results lost. So i dont think this is a palm issue, this is rather a garmin issue, right?

It's Palm related, this is an ability that should function in Palm 6.0 but 6.0 may not be compatible with the current iQue.

CC, one more question, if this was a palm issue, then all other apps would have a problem. I see this problem related to only the QueFind.

Sort of like the old Windows, Palm 5.1 is capable of some mutlti-threading to allow simultaneous processes to coexist but not true multitasking. In the case of the Find application, the default behavior is to shut down.

Thought the iQue's processor is sufficient for Palm OS, it is nowhere the newest and fastest. In fact, 200 MHz is only half of the processor speed in the T3 or any of the wireless PocketPCs (they have a 400 MHz Intel XScale).
