My Ram Mount/Otter 2600 setup

Here is the setup I have made for waterproof motorcycling and/or mountain biking with my iQue.

I started with an Otterbox 2600, due to its smaller size than the recommended 3600. The iQue fits in here, but not with the antenna open. I opted to mount an angled metal plate to the top of the box, for my Gilsson, as I enjoy the added amplification of the external antenna, plus the metal base helps to improve reception. I shorter cable would have been preferred, although I am using the 3 foot and the excess cable-tied off.

I then made a right-angle connector, in 1/8 " stereo, from parts from RadioShack, with an external connector protruding from the bottom of the box, so that I can basically extend the headphones connector outside the box. There are only three wires involved here and I soldered and electrical taped them.

I purchased a Garmin 12 volt cig. adapter and again, from RadioShack parts, purchased 2.3 mm female and male, DC coaxial connectors and again, extended the (power this time) connection outside the bottom of the box. The 2.3 mm is the same size as the iQue power plug and there is no fear of the "breakage" problem, as the setup isolates and secures the iQue in the box, away from any pulling or stress on the pin.

The Ram Mount completes the setup, with a diamond plate screwed to the back of the Otterbox, an arm and ball attachment, ultimately attaching to the handlebar of my Honda Shadow, or my mountainbike. This setup has survived 90 plus mph on the Honda and crashes on the mountainbike. It also should be completely weatherproof and allows navigation, mp3 play and the membrane of the Otterbox actually presses against the iQue, so normal button and screen manipulation is possible.

(p.s., all holes were drilled through the Otter and then sealed with silicone....)

I think I have covered everything, please respond with any questions.

Jeff

Nice...

How did you do the antenna, I was afraid to cut my cable. Is that just a regular antenna, cut, with a male and female BNC connector setup in between?
