A little OT because the iQue doesn't support SDIO:
The iPod mini recently came out and the huge hard drive capacity just begs for some interesting applications.
Imagine if there was an SDIO card that can link up to the iPod's firewire port to access the data stored there. What can you do with that?
- carry all detailed maps with you on trips
- loads of backup space
- save movies on iPod, watch on Palm
- create images of different SD card/RAM configurations and load up the one you need; NG topo would no longer be a problem

Does anyone know if such a card is available or in development?
You could do that with any external drive that supports USB I guess. And then you wouldn't need to wait for an SDIO option. But another solution would be to use a 1 GB card (soon 2 GB cards will be available). You would then need a quick way to transfer data from the ipod to the Sd card via firewire. IS it possible to connect a card reader to the ipod?

Really? How? iPod's with the dock connector support USB and this sounds very interesting (since I am ususally carrying one of my iPods and my iQue at all times).
Originally posted by mbvt As a matter of fact, there is a product from Belkin called the iPod Mediareader which plugs onto the iPod and which makes it essentially a cardreader.
Thanks for the link. Do you know if the iPod software allows the basic file manager functions like directory creation, renaming, cut/copy and paste of directory structures? If it can then most of the applications I mentioned are possible.
The only thing missing would be this one: "save movies on iPod, watch on Palm." Well maybe it can still work if the SD card was big enough to hold the movie. Still, the long transfer time would be a dreadful bore. With the speed of firewire, it would be much more convenient to read it directly from the iPod's hard drive.
iPods are definitely a mass market product. And there are a lot of Palms and PPCs out there too. You'd think someone would be working on a direct connection if it were possible.

I do recall now that though my iPod came only with a Firewire cable, there was an accessory cable that could go in via USB. The duct tape is a good idea. It also sees regular use in Hollywood movies to silence those have nothing useful to contribute to.......................
I got the following reply after PM'ing AnswerDude.

As far as i know, unfortunately there's no such product exist or in the making. Ipod and firewire has a reputaion (some are true) of being proprietary, i guess that makes many devolpers stay away form it. Best you can do right now is to get early version of Muvo mp3 player with 4gb drive inside, remove it and use it as an expansion cf card for pocketpc at very resonable price. As an example of proprietary technology, mini ipod with the same 4gb drive will not work with pocketpc.
If you bought an iQue you are likely a gadget freak as well and this new category of gadget is certainly intriguing. WIth 20MB and a $500 price point, battery life will make or break this thing.
I think Delkin has standalone hard drives that take flash cards, CF and possibly others. Also, Minolta makes a SD to CF adapter, it sells at USD 55 abt. It's hard to find.

Well, what´s the point anyway, using a iPod mini as a cardreader. The CF cards I use currently are measured in multiple GB, so I would only be able to copy once or twice.
