I called Dell yesterday, and after a hour on the phone with someone in South America, they sent me a "new" unit today; whose LAN also does not work. It was shipped with the A06 EROM code already installed. Now here is the catch: I bought my wife an identical 51v at the same time I bought mine; her LAN radio worked fine and still does; the only difference between the two units that do not work, is that her unit still has the A01 EROM code in it and both of them whose LAN does not work have the A06 code. Hmmmm?
The LAN is used for running both Internet Explorer and for Messaging. Both work very fast in hers, as they did in mine when I first got it. In the other two, the LAN just barely works, so slow that it either never gets a transfer done, or, in the case of messaging, the mail server times out because it is so slow. In all cases, the "Connectivity" bars show a strong signal on all units.
Any ideas? Has anyone else noticed funny business with the LAN radio after installing A06?
We are running SHARED, WEP encryption, if that matters.

Your reference to Lan Radio is WiFi (wireless) networking.
I've an X51V w/ ROM A06, upgraded from A01.
I surf (internet banking, respond to forums, etc) more than 4 hours a day, more on the weekends. I find my PIE faster than most of my friend's desktop.
Instead of SHARED, I used OPEN with 64-bit WEP encryption. If you're using 128-bit, you'll find yourself being dragged down.
Ways to improve browsing speed:
• Tweak your Registry's GLYPHCACHE.
• Close all programs to free up RAM.
• Clean up the Index.dat (4 of them) everyday. Almost all sites, especially forums, writes to these files when you surf ... including your password. The more you browse, the bigger it becomes eventhough you delete your cookies & TIF.
• Turn off "Show Pictures". Turn it on only when needed.
