Thumbs up Bellagio Case Reviewed

Just received Bellagio case today (1 day after ordering itn no doubt due to my close proximity to the company headquaters).

I am very impressed with this case and it far exceeds my expectations.

This is for the Flip Style Case

The unit slides into the case and hooks on to the case using 2 tiny protruding plastic pieces the hook onto the universal holes.
There is also soft leather on the side of the palm that goes around and covers the back. Where the leather comes to an edge it curls to front and bottom(in front of the hotsync connection) and is reinforced by stiff piping that also helps retain the palm in place. This keeps the Zire 71 very securely in place and allows use of the camera without any slippage of the unit. The leather on the sides also makes for easy gripping. It takes more effort to take out of the case than to put it in, which in my opinion is a good thing.

The front of the case is a hard leather(possibly cardboard or plastic covered in leather) that is well padded giving good protection of the screen. the padding makes it a little bulkier than the EB case, but provides better protection and the difference in bulk is negligible.

Now for the most interesting part of the design. The back of the back of the case as iI describe avove is soft leather about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom. This is covered by a harder cover(see desription above) that goes from top to bottom, but about 1/3 of the way down from the top, the harder cover is scored(creased) which allows it to bend back.

What this effectively allows is for the Zire 71 to sync in the cradle while in the case because the bottom part of the hard cover bends back and over the cradle. The bottom part also allows you to use the case as an easel, meaning you can stand the palm up on your desk using the case. The cover must be open to do both of these things but doesn't have to be flipped all the way back.

Now for some basics. The closure is a magnetic snap that closes around the bottom to the back. The back part of the snap is on the hard part of the back cover, which bring the whole case together providing excellent protection to all sides of the unit, because the hard part of the cover extends just a fraction of an inch on the sides and bottom. The top is a thick pliable piece of leather that has an oversize cutout for the headphone jack, which will accomadate and standard headphone plug. It is a little stiff at first when you flip it closed and snap it shut, but I think it's because it is new and will loosen up with some use, but it is still easy to snap shut(better tight at first than too loose right!). There is a cutout on the soft leather part in the back for the speaker and even when the case is fully closed with the the hard back covering the speaker you can still hear very clearly.

Overall I think this is an outstanding case that provides excellent protection for the unit, allows for full functionality of of the unit, and securely holds the unit in place with NO VELCRO !!!!. It meets and exceeds my expectations, and what the company representative desribed.

Sorry for the wordiness of this review , but I wanted to adequately convey all the features and benefts of this case

And no I do not work for the company, but using my user id as a refferal if you decide to order this case based on this review would be appreciated.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the awesome review!

Does anyone think the prices are gonna come down a bit for the good Z71 cases. I gotta say, although the Bellagio and the Piel Frama cases does sound and look really well thoughtout, its pretty pricey.

Hello,

just registered in this forum...

how does the case protect the buttons, specially the joystick from accidental pressure while in the pocket?

I'll be getting hold of a Piel Frama tomorrow and will post a review. Not cheap at US$50 but it does look elegant and finely crafted.

The case puts no pressure on the joystick under normal circumstances, unless you put specific pressure to that area of the case yourself

You can also use a program like disable button that would not make this an issue at all

nice

If I get the Zire (I had to return the one I bought because of power issues and the buttons not working properly) I'll get this case...

Are the two strips of leather near the buttons any problem? They seem a bit close...

All buttons and other functions(camera, headphone jack, and universal connector) are uninhibited
