Unhappy MS Reader Assistance Needed

Hi all,

I just purchased an ebook (for the first time) - I have MS Reader installed and activated on my PC and the Axim. I have the book in my Personal file on the Axim and it appears in the Library, but when I try and access it, this message appears: "Microsoft Reader is no longer able to access the book."

Well, I never have been able to access it! Any hints or suggestions? This is wigging me right out. I have free ebooks downloaded which I can read just fine.

I certainly do appreciate any assistance you can give me.

Thanks!

You might want to confirm that you are really using the latest version.

I believe the install is somewhat quirky and doesn't actually remove the old version unless you do it manually.

In reader check:

Settings - Page 3

If you are indeed using the latest version, you should see:

Version 2.2.2 (Build 3143)

Thanks, kp - I went to Page 3 of Settings and it doesn't show a version at all. I am confused at where I go to uninstall the first version - I can't seem to find it anywhere even though I know it's installed.

Sheesh! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

update

Well, I found these specific instructions, used them, and it works perfectly! So, if someone else is having this problem, maybe this will work for you :-)

I can open eBooks on my PC, but when I try to open eBooks on my Pocket PC, a message pops up: "Microsoft Reader is no longer able to access the book." Why do I see this message?
I'm having trouble updating my Pocket PC device. Why can't I uninstall Microsoft Reader and install the new version?

How can I check to see if I have the latest version of Microsoft Reader?

On a desktop or laptop PC:

Click the Help tab in Microsoft Reader, then click How To.

Using the arrow buttons on the screen, or the arrow keys on your keyboard, navigate to Page 1.

In the main index on Page 1, select About Microsoft Reader. If you see Version 2.1.1, you have the latest version of Microsoft Reader. If you see a previous version, you have an outdated version of Microsoft Reader installed.

Uninstall your old version using the Add/Remove Programs control panel, then download the latest installation file on the the PC download page.

On a Pocket PC:

Tap the Settings tab in Microsoft Reader.

Tap Go to, and tap "About Microsoft Reader." If you see Version 2.2.2, you have the latest version of Microsoft Reader. If you do not see the "About Microsoft Reader" option under the Go to tab, your device is running an outdated version of Microsoft Reader.

Uninstall your current version of Microsoft Reader, then install the new version. If your version of Microsoft Reader is installed in ROM (which means it was preinstalled by the manufacturer), you cannot uninstall Microsoft Reader. You can, however, install a RAM version of the program.

To ensure you've got the new version of Microsoft Reader on your Pocket PC device, follow these steps:

Tap the Start menu, then Settings.

Choose the System tab, and select Remove Programs.
Highlight "Microsoft Reader." Tap Remove to uninstall Microsoft Reader. If Microsoft Reader does not appear in this list, your version is installed in ROM: you may continue through the rest of these steps.

Visit the Pocket PC download page to download the latest version of Microsoft Reader.

When prompted, indicate that you'd like to install Microsoft Reader. You'll need to confirm this option on your PC and on your Pocket PC. Be sure the device is cradled when you run the installation program.

While your device is cradled, visit the activation pages to activate your Pocket PC: sign in, then choose Activate my Pocket PC.

Thank you all for your input - you were right on target, but I, as a new PPC user, needed just a little bit more how-to! Thanks again!!
