Angry e310 (SanDisk) problems

I replaced my iPAQ 3955 for a Toshiba e310, to help pay for a new laptop. Anyways it seemed like a good idea; the e310 is nice and slim. (though not nearly as sexy as the iPAQ ) And the price is unbeatable: $200 for a brand new unit off eBay. From the start there were problems. I spent four hours to get ActiveSync to work. Apparently you need a special driver to get ActiveSync to recognize the USB cradle. (I also needed to get Activesync 3.6 and the newest AvantGo) The screen on the iPAQ is MUCH better than the e310. The real problem with the e310 is that it won't take SanDisk 128Mb cards. It reads the card for a few days (or hours I hear) and then messes them up to the point where they won't work on anything else. I've tried EVERYTHING. I format the card on my PC, defragment, ScanDisk, the works. Still, the e310 eventually crashes and the card is damaged. I don't know if there is a fix for this, other than getting another brand of storage card. The Toshiba e310 only comes with 32Mb RAM/ROM, so extra memory is crucial. I wish there was a fix to this... I don't want to blow anither $100 on a new storage card.

Bad news....
TOshiba reported on their website that they had a problem recognizing the the SANDISK 128mb SD card. Check their website for possible solutions.

Toshiba was well aware of this problem and made no effort to let the consumer know.....

I have an e740 and I made the mistake of buying a SanDisk 256MB SD memory card. I found there were several problems with the card which I reported to Toshiba immediately.

In short the answer I got back from their technical support was there are known problems with SanDisk SD cards when used in a Toshiba PocketPC and that ANY other type would work. I immediately purchased a Lexar Media card, and it has worked fine. I reported this problem to Chris H. at windowsce.net also.

Frankly, I'm pretty disappointed in my e740 - it has quite a few problems that I've reported to Toshiba and the response is that they are either working on it or it's a "feature". My unit has to be rebooted quite frequently because it hangs and I REALLY dislike the fact that these devices have no backup battery. I've run my unit down 5 times in the last 5 months because of an alarm that doesn't turn off. . . .

I have also purchased a Pocket Loox and a Dell Axim and both of those are better units in my opinion.

Don't mean to bash Toshiba, but I won't consider another e-series device anytime soon based on my experience.

I use a Lexar Media 256Mb and have not seen any of the problems that I saw with the SanDisk.

Toshiba said "ANY OTHER brand of SD card would work fine with the e740/3xx"

Just FYI,

I bought a "SimpleTech" 128meg SD card for my E740 about a week ago. Works just fine... It was the advertised cheapy at Fry's Electronics (34.99 After rebate).

Yeah - I agree, the Toshiba has some advantages, but it's got a lot of drawbacks. I won't buy one again.

I'd definately consider the Dell X5. I have one at work and it's very, very nice. Not glitzy, but a work horse and nicely packaged. I also have a LOOx too and I like that also.

Just depends on what you want. . . .lots of good devices out there. Just do the research before you buy.

Well, I have had no problems with my e740.... I have a SanDisk 256meg SD card, but I won't get a chance to try it out until Friday. I'll report if I have problems, but everything I have read stated the problem was only with SanDisk 128meg SD cards....

The unit has not had to be rebooted because of hanging up or anything. Hopefully I got lucky. I have not gotten to Sync yet as I'm waiting on my laptop to be delivered....

Angry Too many PDAs - problem of tracking

Y can't a pda to be used for 5 yrs??? Definately must worth the value to be depreciated thru out these years. & furthermore the info that being recorded won't be so be updated for each of the PDA. If that's the case, don't tell me, you have to bring all the PDAs out for travelling. That's very troublesome!!!

Well, if it's someone give as a gift. That'll be a different story. But in reality fact, no one is so good to do that. So to spend so much money to change so many models of PDAs, that's very waste of the money! & also it shows that the person has a very fickle mind & flirt heart.
