    Description:
While the exact measurements and weight of the handset weren't released, the company claims the Xplore G88 is the smallest and lightest Palm OS smartphone yet.

SmartPhoneToday got to handle a Xplore G88 at the PalmSource Developers Conference earlier in the month. And we were impressed by how compact and light weight the smartphone was. The Xplore G88 is the successor to the Xplore G18, which was released last year in Asia and Europe.

As a smartphone, the Xplore G88 can handle both data (GPRS), including email, WAP, Web browsing SMS and MMS, and more, as well as voice (GSM) communications. It runs Palm OS 4.1.2 and features a built-in 320 x 240 digital camera with a digital zoom, 16 MB of RAM, 16 MB of ROM and 22 MB of additional internal flash memory, which is nice, as it appears the smartphone won't include an external memory card slot.

The handset features a small 2.2-inch D-TFD color display that supports 65,536 colors. The resolution of the screen is unknown, but the earlier Group Sense smartphone, the Xplore G18, had a display with a 176 x 240 resolution and a virtual graffiti area.

According to Group Sense, a one-handed navigation 5-way jog dial is designed to fit the natural habits of mobile phone users, while Xplore G88 owners can either use a virtual keypad on the smartphone's display or a hard numeric keypad, which slides out from the bottom of the phone, to make calls.
